Reflections

At this Fall time of year, as the weather changes to chilly and my skin cries out for more nourishment, I remember that it was this time last year that inspired me to explore making my own moisturizer.  Reflecting back, I revisited my early thinking as I found myself launching Sheeperfect®.  In the spirit of the season, I want to share with you my Philosophy statement from December 2016.  It remains true today, and has become part of the platform of my business.

In my adventure exploring skin-care products, one of my discoveries was that most companies produce a plethora of different products.  Some product lines take up an entire section of store shelves.  Marketers counsel that producing multiple products offers the opportunity for “upselling.”  In order to get more of your money, merchants entice buyers to believe they need multiple products.  Eventually, buyers are persuaded to advance to the more expensive and “exclusive” line.

While I agree that we are all unique individuals, and everyone has their own set of personal concerns, it is also true that we are all human beings.  Our physical bodies all share some commonalities.  There are both external and internal variables that affect us, such as environmental conditions; weather; sun, wind; heat and cold exposure; age; smoking; diet; and other factors.  Despite all of the variables, skin is the largest organ of the human body, and hydration for the skin is like a good drink of clean cool water.

Marketers pander to our fears.  If you don’t like your toes, you can find a miracle cream for that.  If you don’t like your eyes, there’s a special miracle cream for that.  If you have a saggy neck, there’s a potion for that.  Marketers are savvy to identify and cater to the body parts that you may think are imperfect.  They know you’ll spend your money if they can persuade you that 1) their products can work miracles; and 2) you need them!  Of course, they also know if they use a beautiful celebrity to promote their products, you will buy them in hopes that you, too, can look like they do.

I recently listened to a celebrity who has just come out with 17 new additions to her line of skin-care products.  On an affiliated talk show, she had a dermatologist recommending to two audience members 12 or 14 products they each needed, and elaborating the (complicated) new skin-care regimen they were to undertake.  Wow!  Seriously, 12 or 14 separate products?!?  (The average (sale) price of each item in the collection was $50.65.)

Many people get into skin care because it is a multi-billion dollar industry.  They are looking to get rich.  They are in it for the money.

Not me.

In creating my business, my motivation is not about the money.  It is about sharing quality products that have the best, purest, highest-quality ingredients.  I believe I can create and offer something that isn’t otherwise available on the market.  I am creating a limited line that includes products that contain few selected ingredients with no added water, fillers, additives, or chemicals.  Because of that, my products are highly concentrated; small amounts go a long way.  I am my best first tester; I am only offering products that I deem worthy for my own skin.  As a perfectionist and fastidious about research, my products will be worthy of their value.

My products will never be watered down or thinned.  They will meet my high standards, and will be products I am committed to.  Most importantly, they will pass my love test:  so intoxicating you will want to use periodically just to breathe in.
